Softball Game Preview: Cherokee Chiefs vs. Kingsway Dragons

The Cherokee Chiefs will challenge the Kingsway Dragons at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Kingsway will be up against a hot Cherokee squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Chiefs' pitcher stepped up to hand Eastern a 14-0 shutout on Thursday. With that victory, the Chiefs brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Not much got past Cali Taylor, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Eastern off the board. Taylor has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cherokee got a massive performance out of Kasey McNee, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Mollee Jacobus, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Cherokee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Kingsway came out on top against Gloucester County Tech on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run fifth inning. The Dragons were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over Gloucester County Tech. The win continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with Gloucester County Tech: they've now won nine in a row.

Kingsway's victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Cherokee, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
