Basketball Recap: Valley Center Comes Up Short

If Valley Center was feeling good fresh off their 73-44 takedown of Escondido last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Valley Center Jaguars took an 84-69 bruising from the Rancho Bernardo Broncos on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, Valley Center still got an impressive performance from Lincoln Zetmeir, who went 12 of 23 on his way to 30 points and five assists. That was a full 43.5% of Valley Center's points, marking the 22nd time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Jonathan Teter was another key player, going 5 for 10 en route to 13 points and seven boards.

Luke Sanchez went supernova for Rancho Bernardo, putting up 31 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Woodland, who scored 18 points.

Valley Center's record now sits at 7-15. As for Rancho Bernardo, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-9.

Valley Center is taking a road trip to take on Crawford at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Valley Center knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Crawford likes a good challenge. As for Rancho Bernardo, they will venture away from home to challenge Escondido at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Escondido: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Rancho Bernardo has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
