Baseball Game Preview: Hopkinsville Tigers vs. Calloway County Lakers

The Hopkinsville Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Calloway County Lakers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither Hopkinsville nor Calloway County posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Hopkinsville's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Thursday's struggle, when Apollo hitters got past them. The Tigers came up short against the Eagles on Thursday, falling 12-1. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Hopkinsville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Griffen Meacham, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Calloway County had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Hickman County 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lakers have posted since April 22nd.

Hopkinsville's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Calloway County, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Hopkinsville was able to grind out a solid victory over Calloway County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Lakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
