Softball Preview: Brooks Lions vs. Hatton Hornets
The Brooks Lions will face off against the Hatton Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hatton took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Brooks, who comes in off a win.
Brooks barely beat Deshler the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions never let the Tigers get on the board and left with an 8-0 win on Tuesday.
The result came thanks to Laken Wilcoxsen's shutout, as she gave up just two hits.
On the hitting side, Brooks got a big performance out of Baylee Darby, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Darby has posted since back in February. Faith Roberson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Brooks was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deshler only posted a batting average of .095.
Meanwhile, Hatton came up short against Lawrence County on Monday and fell 5-2. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hatton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyli Smith, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Brooks' victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-8. As for Hatton, their loss dropped their record down to 10-14-1.
Brooks was able to grind out a solid win over Hatton when the teams last played back in March, winning 6-1. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
