Softball Recap: Shelby County Comes Up Short

Shelby County extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 9-9. They came up short against the Woodford County Yellowjackets, falling 12-2. That's two games in a row now that the Rockets have lost by exactly ten runs.

Shelby County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alivia Dejesus, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Dejesus has launched this season. Madison Clark was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Woodford County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-14 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

On Woodford County's side, Addie Bryant made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bryant has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Emma Ruby was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bri Coovert, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Shelby County will head out to take on Paul Laurence Dunbar at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Woodford County, they will venture away from home to square off against Western Hills at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
