Baseball Recap: J.R. Tucker Gets the Win

J.R. Tucker was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Highland Springs on Wednesday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Springers. The Tigers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 16, 2024 (when they won 20-0).

Joey Noel and Caleb Wood made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Noel pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wood tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Noel has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Noel went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Wood went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave Noel a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gabriel Garcia was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Christian Barrett was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

J.R. Tucker's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Highland Springs, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-4.

Looking ahead, J.R. Tucker will square off against Glen Allen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaguars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Highland Springs has already played their next match (against Hanover), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
