Eldorado got a great performance from Cooper Burak as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, Burak posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on John Wofford, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Timothy Kamphuis was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Los Lunas faced La Cueva in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Tigers came out on top against the Bears by a score of 9-6.
JJ Utash made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jonah Utash was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Eldorado's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Los Lunas, their win bumped their record up to 19-10.
Both Eldorado and Los Lunas just can't seem to miss. The Golden Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Los Lunas struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eldorado beat Los Lunas 7-4 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Golden Eagles repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
