Baseball Preview: South Hills Huskies vs. Colony Titans

South Hills is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will face off against the Colony Titans at 3:30 p.m. The last three games South Hills has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

In Monday's Canine Competition, South Hills prevailed. They had just enough and edged out Ayala 5-4. The Huskies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Joseph Moreno looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Ayden Vieth was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Victor Merlos also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Everything went their way against the Argonauts as they made off with a 6-0 win. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Not much got past Steven Gonzales, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Garden Grove off the board.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Elijah Ybanez, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brody Litwin, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

South Hills now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Colony, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Hills has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Colony struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
