Softball Recap: Fern Creek Comes Up Short

Fern Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Collins Titans. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Titans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Charlotte Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Fern Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Weihe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Weihe hit this season. Another was Zariah St. Gerard, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Fern Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Collins, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-2.

Looking ahead, Fern Creek will challenge Russell at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Collins, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-1 loss against North Oldham on the 11th.
