Southland was the 3-2 winner over Lanesboro when they last played one another back in October of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Southland Rebels fell just short of the Lanesboro Burros by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. While the Rebels didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Burros 25-16 in the first set.

Southland actually scored more points across those five sets (102-97), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 15-12.

Southland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abby Sorgatz, who had 32 digs. Sorgatz is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 18 or more in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. Southland's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4. As for Lanesboro, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.

Southland and Rushford-Peterson are set to duel on Wednesday. Lanesboro has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Mabel-Canton on the 8th.
