Baseball Game Preview: Hayden Wildcats vs. Springville Tigers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Hayden Wildcats challenge Springville Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Hayden managed to slip by Springville the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Hayden came up short against Springville on Tuesday, falling 13-1. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Springville's part, Carter Samuelson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance gave Samuelson a new career-low in hits. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Springville let Grant Martinez and Ryan King run wild. Martinez scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while King scored two runs while going 3-for-5. That's the most stolen bases Martinez has posted since back in February. Kevin Jones also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Springville is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. Hayden's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
