Baseball Recap: Yuma Catholic Now 12-1 over Last 13 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Yuma Catholic walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Empire Ravens on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Shamrocks, who have now won 18 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Hiram Silva spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Erik Topete was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Joey Carey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Yuma Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .414 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Yuma Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Empire, their loss dropped their record down to 14-14.

Coming up, Yuma Catholic will face off against Kingman on Saturday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Shamrocks surely won't give up without a fight. Empire does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
