Basketball Recap: Wayne Country Day Comes Up Short

If Wayne Country Day was feeling good fresh off their 75-31 takedown of Epiphany last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wayne Country Day Chargers fell 71-64 to the Greenfield Knights on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chargers of the 86-68 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Wayne Country Day saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jeremiah Mercer posted 21 points. Jaelen Solomon was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 14 boards.

Wayne Country Day's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 24-5. As for Greenfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Greenfield beat Wayne Country Day by a score of 78-70 on Friday.
