Baseball Recap: Ray Extends Winning Streak to Three

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Ray ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-11 win over the St. David Tigers. That's more bragging rights for the Bearcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ray got a massive performance out of James Ruiz, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Ruiz has become a key player for the Bearcats: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 5-12-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mark Chester, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Ray kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.6.

The victory was the third in a row for Ray, bringing their record up to 9-12-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for St. David, they now have a losing record of 7-8-1.

Ray has already played their next contest, a 5-4 victory against Globe on the 21st. As for St. David, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-0 win against Baboquivari on the 21st.
