Softball Recap: Shepherd Wins Going Away Against Hardin-Jefferson

Shepherd barely beat Hardin-Jefferson the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Shepherd was the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over Hardin-Jefferson on Saturday. Considering the Pirates have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Jayci Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in January. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Skyleigh Lagow and Neveah Murphey did most of the damage at the plate: Lagow went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Murphey went 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those five RBI gave Lagow a new career-high. Rylei N was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Shepherd kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Shepherd's record now sits at 21-6. As for Hardin-Jefferson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.

Coincidentally, Shepherd and Hardin-Jefferson will both be playing Tarkington the next time they take the field. Hardin-Jefferson will head out to face Tarkington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Shepherd will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
