Basketball Recap: Monte Alto Blue Devil vs. Vanguard Academy Beethoven

Monte Alto managed to keep up with Vanguard Academy Beethoven until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Monte Alto Blue Devil lost 69-45 to Vanguard Academy Beethoven. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devil this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 75-60 back in December of 2024.

Monte Alto's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ramiro Vazquez, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 14 points. Ricky Serrano was another key player, putting up 15 points along with six boards and four steals.

Erik Cantu was a one-man wrecking crew for Vanguard Academy Beethoven as he went 11 of 20 en route to 31 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Cantu a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendrick Velasquez, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 13 points in addition to six assists and six boards.
