Recap: Coal City Coalers vs. Reed-Custer Comets
The Coal City Coalers won the last time they faced the Reed-Custer Comets, and things went their way on Friday too. Coal City rang in the new year with a 51-39 win over Reed-Custer. Given Coal City's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Reed-Custer is ranked 433rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Reed-Custer lost, one person who can't be blamed is Natalie Flores. Despite the final result, she scored nine points.
Coal City is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. As for Reed-Custer, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coal City will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Manteno at 5:30 p.m. on January 8th. Manteno is on a three-game streak of home wins, Coal City a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Reed-Custer, they will head out on the road to face off against Lisle at 6:45 p.m. on Monday.
