Softball Recap: Williams Comes Up Short

Williams dropped their record down to 15-12 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the St. David Tigers by a score of 5-4. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Williams saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kenzie Orozco, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for St. David, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games.

On St. David's side, Paisley Gooding spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. Gooding has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jasmine Wise was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Williams does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. David, they will challenge Joseph City at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
