Softball Recap: Lindhurst Picks Up Second Consecutive Win

Lindhurst barely beat Rio Vista the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blazers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Rams an 11-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Blazers have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ashlynn Wheeler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Lindhurst let Kimberly Diaz-Valadez and Gisele Thao run wild. Diaz-Valadez went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Thao went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave Diaz-Valadez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evelyn Kupser, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Lindhurst always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rio Vista only posted an OBP of .118.

The win made it two in a row for Lindhurst and bumps their season record up to 13-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Rio Vista, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.

Lindhurst will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rams: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
