Football Recap: Thomas County Central Piles Up the Points Against Florida State University High School

Thomas County Central had won nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 3-0 to make it ten. They claimed a resounding 79-14 win over the Florida State University High School Seminoles. Fans of the Yellow Jackets have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Christian Lawrence had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 148 yards and two scores, and also picked up 55 receiving yards and one TD. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 59 yards. Jabari Watkins did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 37 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Thomas County Central proved: they limited Florida State University High School to a paltry 2.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Jacoby Herring for the heroic effort on defense: he. Thomas County Central didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 12.3.

Thomas County Central's defense didn't let Jayme Miller., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece.

Having lost for the first time this season, Florida State University High School fell to 2-1. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 54th in Florida, while Thomas County Central is ranked eighth in Georgia).

Several Seminoles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Miller, who threw for 254 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per attempt. A healthy portion of that aerial production (87 yards to be exact) went to Jaylan Lurry, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Coming up, Thomas County Central will look to defend their home field on Friday against Thomasville at 7:30 p.m. As for Florida State University High School, they will venture away from home to square off against Hawthorne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
