Softball Recap: North Augusta Yellow Jackets vs. Strom Thurmond Rebels
North Augusta fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Strom Thurmond on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 9-8. The Yellow Jackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rebels apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2017.
Eleanor Brummond was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 7.1 innings pitched.
At the plate, Lia Allen and Carley Penvose did some serious damage despite the final result: Allen went 3-for-5 with three runs, while Penvose went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Emily Geddes also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
North Augusta's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Strom Thurmond, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
North Augusta wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 15-0 victory against Aiken on the 17th. As for Strom Thurmond, they will be playing at home against American Leadership Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.35 runs per game on average), something the Rebels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
