Basketball Game Preview: Phoebus Phantoms vs. Warhill Lions

The Phoebus Phantoms will head out to face off against the Warhill Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Phoebus has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since January 16.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 68-28, which was the final score in Phoebus' tilt against Warwick on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Phantoms can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while the Raiders are ranked 86th).

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Warhill duked it out with Tabb on Tuesday. Warhill really took it to Tabb for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-18 victory. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 27 points or more this season.

Phoebus better focus on containing D'Shela Walker and Bria McAdoo as the pair were huge in Warhill's win. Walker went 8-for-16 en route to 25 points in addition to six steals and five assists, while McAdoo went 10-for-13 to rack up 21 points and five steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Walker has scored at least a third of Warhill's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taleah James, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

Warhill has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Phoebus, their loss dropped their record down to 2-20.

Phoebus came up short against Warhill when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 39-35. Can Phoebus avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
