Baseball Game Preview: Plainville Blue Devils vs. Southington Blue Knights

The Plainville Blue Devils will square off against the Southington Blue Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Plainville came up short against Edwin O. Smith and fell 7-2. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

New Britain typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Southington proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Golden Hurricanes with a sharp 13-5 victory. Considering the Blue Knights have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Southington got a massive performance out of Mark Zigmont, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Zigmont a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin LaRosa, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Southington and bumps their season record up to 13-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Plainville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
