Basketball Game Preview: Lincoln Southeast Knights vs. Lincoln Northeast Rockets

A classic North v. South matchup is on the schedule. The Lincoln Southeast Knights and the Lincoln Northeast Rockets will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Lincoln Southeast is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They strolled past Lincoln High with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 79-65. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Links are ranked 86th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chewy Thoat was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 7 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Prospedi Mukendi, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points.

Lincoln Southeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Northeast entered their tilt with Fremont on Wednesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 70-48 win. The Rockets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 22 points or more this season.

Lincoln Northeast is also on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Lincoln Southeast, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.

Lincoln Southeast came up short against Lincoln Northeast in their previous matchup on January 7th, falling 83-76. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Lincoln Northeast's Lazerek Houston, who went 12 of 19 en route to 34 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists. Now that Lincoln Southeast knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
