Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cameron). They were the clear victors by a 26-1 margin over the Hundred Hornets on Monday. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Billy Patterson made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs.
In other batting news, Wes Starcher was a standout: he got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Cameron is undefeated when Starcher posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kason Angel, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Cameron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .745. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cameron's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-10. As for Hundred, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cameron will head out to face off against Paden City at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dragons are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Hundred, they will head out on the road to challenge Trinity Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
