Baseball Recap: Durham Drops Season-High Score on Pierce

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Durham). Everything went their way against the Pierce Bears on Tuesday as they made off with a 23-2 win. The Trojans have beaten the Bears the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bears has come to flipping the script.

Jack Stephens made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stephens was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Brevan Ring looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Durham let Ely Martinez and Jack Drake run wild. Martinez went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Drake got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Drake has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Lynch, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Durham's victory bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Pierce, they dropped their record down to 2-16 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Durham will welcome Paradise at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.07 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. Pierce will be paying especially close attention to Durham's contest: after Durham faces off against Paradise, they'll take on Pierce again at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
