Basketball Recap: Huntington North Takes a Loss

While it was all tied up 42-42 at halftime, Huntington North was not quite Fort Wayne Bishop Luers's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They took an 81-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Knights. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Huntington North still got an impressive performance from Ethan Zahn, who went 6-for-10 en route to 23 points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Husband, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 16 points and five rebounds.

Zahn wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Huntington North was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Fort Wayne Bishop Luers' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drelyn Truesdale led the charge by going 10-for-18 on his way to 26 points in addition to six assists and three steals. With that strong performance, Truesdale is now averaging an impressive 15 points per game. Another player making a difference was Dereon Truesdale, who went 8-for-12 en route to 24 points along with six boards and three steals.

Huntington North has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points over those games. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.

Coming up, Huntington North will face off against Tippecanoe Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tippecanoe Valley will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Huntington North surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, they will welcome Fort Wayne North Side at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fort Wayne Bishop Luers knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Fort Wayne North Side likes a good challenge.
