Basketball Recap: West Lafayette's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but West Lafayette ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They snuck past the Tri-West Hendricks Bruins with a 79-74 victory. The win almost wasn't to be: the Red Devils were down 37-23 in the second quarter.

Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kellen Dakin, who posted 20 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Dakin a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Miller, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 20 points and three steals.

The victory was the third in a row for West Lafayette, bringing their record for this year to 4-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Tri-West Hendricks, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-1.

West Lafayette didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 80-72 win against Benton Central on the 20th. As for Tri-West Hendricks, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-44 loss against Lafayette Jefferson on the 20th.
