Basketball Recap: Valley Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Valley can now relate to. They took a 57-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Briarwood Christian Lions on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Lions are ranked 72nd).

Despite the defeat, Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kayden Dooley went 7-for-16 en route to 22 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The game was Dooley's third in a row with at least 22 points. Macasha Tucker was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Leading Briarwood Christian to victory were Clara Crawford and Emma Kerley. Crawford dropped a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds, while Kerley went 7-for-15 on her way to 20 points and eight boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kerley has scored at least a third of Briarwood Christian's points.

Valley's loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Briarwood Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 20-11 record this season.

Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Briarwood Christian, they will face off against Selma at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Selma is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season.
