Baseball Recap: University Comes Up Short

University extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping them down to 6-14. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Laguna Beach Breakers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 7-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Vince Maxim was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits.

At the plate, Luke Emrich was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

As for Laguna Beach, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 20th.

On Laguna Beach's side, Branson Wade spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Wade has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Otis Boultinghouse was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Dylan Yencho was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

While University had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
