The Verdugo Hills Dons are taking a road trip to take on the Poly Parrots at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Verdugo Hills will be strutting in after a win while Poly will be coming in after a defeat.
Verdugo Hills got their first taste of in-conference action on Wednesday and they started things off strong. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Arleta a 12-0 shutout. The Dons haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Madesyn Meadows made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.1 innings pitched. Meadows was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julie Aguilar, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Emma Barba was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Verdugo Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arleta only posted an OBP of .185.
Meanwhile, Poly was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 11-5 to Chavez.
Poly got a big performance out of TAYLA COLLINS, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was JAZLYN GALLARDO, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Verdugo Hills' record is now 4-5-1. As for Poly, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Verdugo Hills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Poly struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Verdugo Hills was able to grind out a solid win over Poly when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
