Baseball Recap: Ida B. Wells Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

Ida B. Wells lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lincoln, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. The Guardians put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 10-3 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Guardians, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Jack Burnham and Joah Kuehlthau dominated on the mound. Burnham struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk), while Kuehlthau pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kuehlthau is becoming a predictor of Ida B. Wells' success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 4-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Jackson Poole and Ramsey Prentice did most of the damage at the plate: Poole scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Prentice got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave Prentice a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cody Roletto, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Ida B. Wells always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Ida B. Wells has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-9.

Ida B. Wells will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cardinals: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
