Softball Recap: Lake Central Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Lake Central dropped their record down to 19-3 on Monday, which also ended the team's ten-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Lowell Red Devils by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Indians have suffered since June 1, 2024.

Lake Central got a good showing from Jada Lewis, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Lexi Iwema was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Tegan Tripp, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Lowell, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games.

On Lowell's side, Olivia Fuentes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. Fuentes has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Isabella Baron was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Central will take on Chesterton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lowell, they will square off against Munster at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Red Devils' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
