Soccer Game Preview: Smithfield-Selma vs. West Johnston

Smithfield-Selma is 1-9 against West Johnston since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Smithfield-Selma Spartans will take on the West Johnston Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Smithfield-Selma's win against Triton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Smithfield-Selma never let Triton get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Wednesday. The Spartans wouldn't have won without Layla Jones, who scored the game-winner.

Meanwhile, West Johnston waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Warriors 10-0. The Wildcats' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three contests.

Smithfield-Selma's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for West Johnston, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-4-1.

Smithfield-Selma suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to West Johnston in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Smithfield-Selma avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
