Baseball Recap: Hampton Picks Up Sixth Straight Win on the Road

On Tuesday Hampton's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Phoebus Phantoms. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Crabbers have posted since April 22, 2024.

Toby Weymouth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Xavier Nixon, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Josh Peele, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Hampton pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Phoebus, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Hampton will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Phantoms: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
