Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Mullen

Mullen had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 62-38 margin over the Sandhills Valley Mavericks. The Broncos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 22 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Peyton Paxton, who posted 17 points in addition to seven assists and seven steals. Those seven assists gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Hegland, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 13 points and three steals.

Mullen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 26 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Sandhills Valley's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hope Correll, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Mullen's victory bumped their record up to 17-2. As for Sandhills Valley, they are on a 37-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-16.

Mullen does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sandhills Valley, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-33 defeat against Perkins County on the 14th.
