Softball Recap: Mechanicsburg Comes Up Short

Mechanicsburg had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-9 to make it five. They came up short against the West Jefferson Roughriders, falling 10-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Indians have suffered since March 24th.

Mechanicsburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Batkiewicz, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for West Jefferson, their record now sits at 13-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

On West Jefferson's side, Jenna Mannon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Mannon has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, West Jefferson got a big performance out of Hailey McBrayer, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI McBrayer has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimberly Warnock, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mechanicsburg will take on Greeneview at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rams will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Jefferson, they will welcome Madison Plains at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
