Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Navajo Prep

Navajo Prep had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Newcomb Skyhawks 32-5. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Jazmine Deswood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Navajo Prep got a massive performance out of Cheyenne Davis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Those four runs gave Davis a new career-high. Leilani Wood was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Navajo Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games.

Navajo Prep's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.3 runs over those games. As for Newcomb, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Coming up, Navajo Prep will be playing at home against Tohatchi at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newcomb, they will head out to challenge Grants at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Skyhawks will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
