Basketball Recap: STEM School Highlands Ranch Takes a Loss

STEM School Highlands Ranch was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 51-8 loss at the hands of the Ascent Classical Academy Guardians. The Spartans lost against the Guardians in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 19-11 score last time.

Ascent Classical Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Riley Johnson, who went 9-for-19 en route to 20 points and six steals. Johnson is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least six every time she's taken the court this season. Charlotte Trouba was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and ten boards.

STEM School Highlands Ranch's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Ascent Classical Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. STEM School Highlands Ranch will face off against KIPP Denver Collegiate at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ascent Classical Academy, they will take on Mile High Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
