The New London-Spicer Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Watertown-Mayer Royals at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
New London-Spicer was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Thursday. The Wildcats blew past the Lakers 12-2. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wildcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Brayden Skindelien made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Skindelien was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Nolan Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Andres Rojas, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Watertown-Mayer sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Litchfield on Thursday.
Watertown-Mayer also got a great performance from Jackson Onell as he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaren Vogt, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
New London-Spicer pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Watertown-Mayer, their record now sits at 2-0.
New London-Spicer skirted past Watertown-Mayer 10-8 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
