Volleyball Recap: Washington Starts Season with Loss at Home

Washington unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 3-0 to the Verrado Vipers on Wednesday.

While Washington was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Verrado's winning margin in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-9, 25-16, 25-18.

Ben Marquez paced Washington's offense, picking up seven kills. Marquez got some help from Sebastian Slowinski and his nine assists. Marquez was also solid from the service line: he led the team with two aces.

Washington has already played their next game, a 3-1 defeat against Fairfax on the 6th. As for Verrado, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Alhambra on the 7th.
