Baseball Recap: Oak Lawn Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Oak Lawn ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past the Oak Forest Bengals 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since April 4th.

John Olejniczak was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Peyton Melnik was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Oak Lawn has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Oak Forest, their defeat ended a 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-10-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oak Lawn will host Kennedy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oak Forest, they will be playing at home against Lemont at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
