Basketball Game Preview: Marshall Rams vs. Holmes Huskies

The Marshall Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Holmes Huskies at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Marshall and 21 for Holmes.

Last Saturday, Marshall ended up a good deal behind O'Connor and lost 52-34. The contest marked the Rams' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Marshall had strong showings from Jai Lopez, who went 6 of 15 en route to 16 points and eight rebounds, and Jason Vidaurri, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Vidaurri a new career-high in boards.

Meanwhile, Holmes lost to O'Connor on the road by a 62-47 margin on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 953rd, while the Panthers are ranked 165th).

Marshall's defeat dropped their record down to 11-21. As for Holmes, their loss dropped their record down to 4-29.

Marshall didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Holmes in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 70-65 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Holmes' Joseph Ramon, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 27 points and three steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Marshall still be able to contain Ramon? There's only one way to find out.
