Basketball Recap: Timpview Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Wasatch

On Friday, Timpview faced Wasatch in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Timpview Thunderbirds fell just short of the Wasatch Wasps by a score of 45-42. The loss continues a trend for the Thunderbirds in their matchups with the Wasps: they've now lost three in a row.

Timpview's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Livi Eyre, who went 6 for 11 en route to 13 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lina Ballin, who posted ten points and five assists.

Wasatch found their leader in sophomore Mahala Speredon, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 17 points and three blocks. Anna Greenwell was another key player, putting up seven points.

Timpview's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Wasatch, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Cedar Valley the next time they take the court. Timpview will host Cedar Valley at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while Wasatch will head out to face them at 5:15 p.m. on February 7th.
