Basketball Recap: Anabel Mercedes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wilby over Ansonia

Wilby lost against Ansonia back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The match between the Wilby Wildcats and the Ansonia Chargers didn't end well, with the Wilby Wildcats falling 60-42.

Wilby lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Anabel Mercedes, who went 5-for-11 en route to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Raine Upchurch, who posted 17 points.

Wilby's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Ansonia, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wilby will square off against Woodland Regional at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ansonia, they will take on Waterbury Career Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
