Softball Recap: Clairemont Wins Going Away Against Madison

Clairemont had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Madison on Tuesday. The Chieftains were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Warhawks. Considering the Chieftains have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Maddy Finley was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Ava Cain also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Clairemont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Madison only posted an OBP of .364.

Clairemont has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Madison, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Clairemont will challenge University City at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chieftains are facing the Centurions at the right time seeing as the Centurions are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Madison, they will square off against Mira Mesa at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Marauders will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Warhawks surely won't give up without a fight.
