Softball Recap: St. Johns Takes a Loss

St. Johns had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it 11. They fell 9-6 to the Fowlerville Gladiators. If the Redwings were looking for revenge after losing 11-3 to the Gladiators when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Fowlerville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

For Fowlerville's part, they let Tommi Kleinschmidt and Kiely Davis run wild. Kleinschmidt went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Davis went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those four hits gave Davis a new career-high. Ella Olrich was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Johns will take on Portland at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fowlerville, they will challenge Lake Fenton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Gladiators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
