Spearville had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Skyline Thunderbirds a 4-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Aydin Ruiz made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danny Alcala, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Austin Ruiz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Spearville's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Skyline, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-17.
