Softball Recap: Zane Trace Wins Going Away Against Westfall

Zane Trace barely beat Westfall the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pioneers put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 11-5 victory on Monday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Pioneers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Brynn Wipert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zane Trace got a massive performance out of Haylynn Boggess-Pierce, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Boggess-Pierce a new career-high. Carlie Clark was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Zane Trace's record now sits at 6-8. As for Westfall, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Zane Trace will square off against Piketon at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Redstreaks will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Pioneers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Westfall, they will challenge Wheelersburg at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 0.9 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
