Softball Game Preview: Adrian Maples vs. Saline Hornets

Adrian hasn't had much luck against Saline recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Maples will host the Hornets at 4:30 p.m.

Adrian fell victim to Tecumseh and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Indians, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Maples' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Saline never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past Huron 16-0. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.

Jessi Phelps made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Phelps was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Reese Rupert was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted over her last eight matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Wiedmayer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Saline always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Huron only posted an OBP of .100.

Saline has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Adrian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
